From one of my Peugeot facebook groups (a friend of a member). BMW dual carb 1602 (2002 engine) into a Ford Focus that was performing an illegal U turn. Driver is banged up, lap belts only so he caught a face full of momo. Couple broken bones, stitches, concussion - he’ll live though. God DAMN though that 02 did a number on the Focus. People need to follow the rules of the road. Usually if the U turn is illegal, it is because it is a low visibility or dangerous stretch

You hate to see a Cortina tail lamp 2002 go out like that.

Hi I’m congressman Benjamin Rolland and I approve of this smushed BMW.

My mini underrestoration is a 78 but never had belts in the back seat. Never built that way. in ‘78 can you believe it? I’m going to weld in new sets of belts for the back. there’s a retrofit kit for that. My kids going to get ice cream deserve some sort of safety even thought the car itself is a beer can. Full belts for all no matter what car it is Is my belief.

why just because you couldn’t get yours running?

I agree, I put them in my Vanagon in the way back too, though it was too hard to put them in the middle seat.

Ugh. There would be murders.

Dude... I get that you aren’t a fan of BMW’s (and other German cars) but that thing was probably the owners pride and joy... Not sure why you'd enjoy seeing it wrecked.
![]() 04/21/2015 at 12:52 |

Jesus. It’s so smashed that it almost looks like a ‘shop in the first pic.

I cant believe it took that kind of energy and still did what it was supposed to do 40+ years later

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
cries
I’m glad it did its job, and that the owner’s injuries weren’t worse. All you can really ask of a car, no matter how cool, is that it save your life.

no shit right? All because some bitch had to turn around and wasn’t looking

I’m not a litigious person at all but.....
I would sue the fucking panties off the bitch that did that to my ‘02
That BMW was in gorgeous shape :-/

A Vanagon didn’t? That’s weird, my ‘82 has them all.

looked like original paint to me too in the before picture. I agree
![]() 04/21/2015 at 13:09 |

my 85 only had shoulders in the front - BUT you could retrofit the 3 points from the 89-91 model in there - the mounting points are behind the headliner and everything

Huh, interesting. I didn’t know they could be had without them.

Wow, that sucks. One irreplaceable gem in exchange for a cookie cutter nothing-mobile. I’d be interested to know what speeds were involved. Sad on so many levels.

My heart, it hurts. One more classic off the road because of someone else’s incompetence. That car looked absolutely beautiful beforehand as well. :(

Dude, not cool. Im not exactly a fan of your caddy, but I wouldnt be happy if you wrecked it.
![]() 04/21/2015 at 13:48 |

No because now values for ‘em just went up. It’s called politics, son, and I’m trying to appeal to my new class owning constituents by raising values of their cars.
Vote Benjamin Rolland for president 2016.
![]() 04/21/2015 at 13:51 |

It’s called “the greater good”. Sure, that one had to be sacrificed, but sometimes, a culling is necessary. Think of our dear New Class owning friends, with this one out of the picture, their cars value just went up, raising their liquid assets.
Vote Benjamin Rolland for president 2016.

... you can’t be serious.
![]() 04/21/2015 at 13:56 |

You might think it’s not cool, but think of our New Class owning friends. The value of their liquid assets just increased thanks to this hero who sacrificed his for the greater good. I call it “Rollandnomics”, see by destroying examples of things that are no longer made, the owners of the remaining examples see a nice little increase of value on their own. And as president, I vow to help raise national wealth by implementing Rollandnomics on a national level.
Vote Benjamin Rolland for president 2016.

Thats an awful way to think
![]() 04/21/2015 at 14:00 |

You say that now, but take your ranger for example. Worthless! However, if, say 70% of them were destroyed tomorrow, you could be looking at Tacoma level values for your truck. A vote for Ben is a vote for your vehicle not being one of the ones selected for the culling.

That’s painful. You can tell that 2002 was deeply loved.

Obviously you haven’t been paying attention to smash up economics, or “Rollandnomics”
![]() 04/21/2015 at 18:24 |
|
I’ll admit, I haven’t been paying much attention in class.
But I do have a bunch of complaints about the reliability of the 2012 Cadillac SRX!
![]() 04/21/2015 at 18:28 |
|
Oh I you can bet I have way more complaints about that SRX than you. In Ben Rolland’s America, every single 2nd gen SRX will be hunted and destroyed, and every citizen will get a state-mandated new Cadillac, to offset any decline in sales from the SRX being outlawed.
![]() 04/21/2015 at 18:31 |

So sad! Still the BMW guy was lucky that he didn’t have period correct wood rim steering wheel. They are really nasty if you hit your head against them. I hope the Focus driver was fined really severely.
![]() 04/21/2015 at 18:33 |
|
Want to hear the spooky part?????
One 2012 SRX is more unreliable than every single VAG product I’ve ever owned combined. OOOOHHHH SPOOOOOKY.
Can I rant later on Cadillac Corner? And of course convince everybody that the Escalade is better.

Saw the bottom photo yesterday on the 2002 FB group. That top photo is NSFW. I scrolled through oppo and it was hard to look at. As much as I talk up my car, I know it’s shit when it comes to safety. Seeing this and knowing how much these things are loved and cared for is just sad. Though it’s fairly intact and I wouldn’t doubt that it could be recovered. New subframe, fenders, hood and front facia.
![]() 04/21/2015 at 18:55 |
|
This is hard to look at, but I’m glad to know the car works. And, hopefully it can make a full recovery. It isn’t actually all that bad. Just new metal, subframe, engine, and the small bits.

I hope the 02 had a decent insurance company and had the car correctly valued. Value has pretty much doubled in the past 5-6 years for these things.

Yis.

Well there's your answer
![]() 04/21/2015 at 19:05 |

We can hope, but I’m not too optimistic. It buckled the roof, so there’s serious chassis damage there.
![]() 04/21/2015 at 19:07 |
|
I thought you of all people would be happy!
![]() 04/21/2015 at 19:09 |

True. I can only hope for the best. And that the insured value was enough to be able to afford one like it.
![]() 04/21/2015 at 19:11 |
|
Hahahaha, well, are the wheels for sale?
No, just sad to see another one ruined. I know they are going up in value, but that’s not what I want. I have no intention of selling mine. Just means that parts are going to be more expensive. If I didn’t care about the community I would be happy. But, that car is way to clean, just sad.

If I offer you a place in my cabinet, provided o get elected, would you feel better about it?
![]() 04/21/2015 at 19:57 |

Depends on how much power I would hold.
I already have a hypothetical scheme at college, where I, with a group of friends, could get the school to pay for a spring break trip to Panama City and all the coke we can snort. (Note, I don’t do coke) I’m on the finance board, one friend is president of SGA, another is treasurer, and a few senators. Then a few more friends on the conduct review board just in case we get caught. It’s pretty underground, so don’t tell anyone.
So ya, if I have power and the ability to cut budgets, I’m all about it.

Here the insurance companies usually compare the prices for similar cars in the market. Exceptionally good examples are a bit problematic as their value is compared to similar average cars. But this depends a lot on the guy who is handling the case.
I have gotten pretty good amount for both of my cars that were in accident.

OUCH!
at least he’s ok!
